A Race to Remember

A new exhibit that highlights the boys who participated in the Hickory Soap Box Derby during the years of 1967—1972. The grand opening is scheduled for

Saturday, March 9th at 11am.

Located at the old courthouse in downtown Newton

This exhibit will stay in place for 6 months. On display will be the winning cars from ‘68, ‘69, ‘70, ‘71, and ‘72. Several are of the “sit up” style and several are of the “lay back” style. These cars were not bought as a kit, but actually built by these 12 and 13 year old boys, along with their dad.

Also will be a “loop video” prepared by Richard Eller, combining a recent video interview of the derby director, John Vaughn, several drivers, along with photos and a 1969 Super 8 home movie. Plus posted on the wall will be old black & white pho- tos that have been supplied by drivers.
