June 11, 2013

The June meeting was held at the Harbor Inn Seafood restaurant located on Fairgrove Church Road in Hickory, NC.

Call to order - Welcome
President Dean Sprague called the monthly meeting to order at 7 PM and welcomed approximately 40 members and guests.  Attendance was down because so many members were in Asheville, NC helping at the GT-38 MG show, rallye and awards banquet.

10 members drove British cars to the meeting.

Officer reports:

Vice-President, Charlie Reed recognized members Dot Martin, Kathy Ahrendt, Tom Young, Mike Outen Sr., Kathy Monroe, Dean Sprague, Anita Keller, Marti Edgar and Becky Poe who are all celebrating Birthdays in June.  Charlie also recognized members Ken & Marti Edgar, Bobby & Sandy Cox, Jim & Dottie Ferguson, Steve & Kathy Monroe, Jerry & Kris Sicard and Bill & Harriet Baird  who are all celebrating their anniversaries in June.

Treasurer, Priscilla Guenther attended the GT-38 show so she will give the financial report in July.

Membership, Harley Blodgett reported that the club has 65 paid members.

Publications, Corky Guenther attended the GT-38 so he will report in July.

Events, Erik Jordan attended the GT-38 in Asheville.

Old Business:  Bobby Cox gave an update of the Collector Car Appreciation Day event to be held July 13th.  He expressed the need to work on getting the word out.  He handed out flyers to those in attendance to pass out at local car events and ask local businesses to post.  He would like to have 200 to 300 cars at the event.  He asked each member to bring a case of drinks if possible and the ladies will be bringing baked goods. Bobby asked that if anyone has any questions or suggestions to be sure and call him.  The steering committee had a meeting following the regular meeting.

Presentations: Jerry Sicard who is a long time member of the club and also a “Master Carver” brought to the meeting a collection of his carvings to display. Members were impressed on the quality and complexity of his carving.  His presentation included a step by step process involved in the carving of a figure with several figures to use as examples.  He also talked about the various tools and their uses when carving.

Steve Simmons won the 50/50 drawing.

The next meeting will be at the Harbor Inn and Seafood restaurant in Hickory, NC on July 9th.
