May 14, 2013
The May meeting was held at the Harbor Inn Seafood restaurant located on Fairgrove Church Road in Hickory, NC.
Call to order - Welcome
President Dean Sprague called the monthly meeting to order at 7 PM and welcomed approximately 60 members and guests.
Recognized members driving British cars
17 members drove British cars to the meeting.
Recognized members wearing club badges
9 members wore club badges to the meeting.
Officer reports:
Vice-President, Charlie Reed recognized members Dewey Keller, Gail Neary, Ellaine Blodgett, Leslie Barlowe, Dennis Makransky, Jim Ferguson, and Missy Jordan who are all celebrating Birthdays in May. Charlie is also celebrating his birthday in May.
Charlie also made the announcement that Jimmie Dameron and his wife are the proud parents of a bouncing baby boy.
Treasurer, Priscilla Guenther reported the balance in the club checking account was $1,328.87 which does not include dues from a new member.
Membership, Harley Blodgett reported that the club has 64 paid members.
Publications, Corky Guenther reported that he has enough articles for the next Marque but asked members to continue sending articles for future Marques.
Events, Erik Jordan talked about attending the Pinehurst Concours at the historic Pinehurst Resort. He also talked about the National Collectors’ Car event that coming up on July 13th. The club will receive help from the Carolina Crossroads Vintage Chevrolet Car Club out of Statesville, NC. Members were asked to download fliers from the club website and past them out at any car shows that they might attend. Details on all of the upcoming events can be found on our club website.
It was noted that long time member Clay Rawn had a serious back operation and is now at home.
Old Business: Kathy Ahrendt announced that the deposit has been made at the new venue for our Christmas Party, “Market on Main”. Dinner will be $20 which includes tip and taxes.
The silent auction of the three pictures that Automotive Artist Dan McCrary donated to the club resulted in two of the three pictures being won by members. The third picture will be auctioned off at a later time.
Member Wayne Starnes passed out a flier on multi-viscosity oils to members that were interested.
Presentations: Dave Brandon, owner of the Brandon Foundry gave members a history of how he got into casing various items out of aluminum. This included a slide show of the process while he explained the various molds, the special sand, why he used aluminum and the way he melted the metal. He brought items to display to give members more of an idea of what he was capable of.
Guy Ervin won the 50/50 drawing.
The next meeting will be at the Harbor Inn and Seafood restaurant in Hickory, NC on June 11th.
