April 9, 2013
The April meeting was held at the Harbor Inn Seafood restaurant located on Fairgrove Church Road in Hickory, NC.
Call to order - Welcome
President Dean Sprague called the monthly meeting to order at 7 PM and welcomed Mike & Anna Rhyne, and Gary & Rebecca Haddock who are visiting but interested in British cars.
Recognized members driving British cars
15 members drove British cars to the meeting.
Recognized members wearing club badges
20 members wore club badges to the meeting.
Officer reports:
Vice-President, Charlie Reed recognized members Corky Guenther, Bobby Cox, Molly Adamson, Loretta Rawn, Chris Sicard, Lisa Klashorst, April Abernethy and Jack Poteet who are all celebrating their birthdays in April.
Charlie also recognized Mike & Vicki Outen Jr. who are celebrating their anniversary in April.
Treasurer, Priscilla Guenther reported the balance in the club checking account was $1,55.95.
Membership, Harley Blodgett reported that the club has 61 paid members.
Publications, Corky Guenther reported that he needs articles.
Events, Erik Jordan talked about the March 23rd Garage Tour with the Vintage Chevy car club which was a success. April and some May events are already posted on our club website. Erik also mentioned upcoming events such as the Williamsburg VA British Car Club show April 13th; the Gathering at Shelton Vineyards April 20th with many of our members planning on attending; the cruise at Conover, NC April 20th; the Key West British Car Club Event; and the Mitty April 26th. Details on all of the above and more can be found on our club website.
Old Business: It was announced that the steering committee for the Classic Car SEMA event on July 13th will meet after the regular meeting adjourns.
New Business: Kathy Ahrendt discussed that since the venue where we had planned to have our Christmas party went out of business the new venue will be “Market on Main”.
It was discussed to auction off the three pictures that Automotive Artist Dan McCrary donated to the club to help defray costs associated with the Christmas Party. Rona Sanders made the motion and Kathy Ahrendt seconded with the membership approving the auction.
Presentations: Member Wayne Starnes gave a presentation about pre-trip inspections for British cars. He also passed out a list of essentials to take besides normal standard equipment plus a list of tools that might be needed. A second item he discussed was NC House Bill 704, Chapter 257 ratified by the General Assembly in 1985. That Bill makes it legal to run old plates on you British Car as long as you have a valid plate with you with a current sticker. He gave members a copy of the Bill to carry with them just in case a law enforcement officer that stop them isn’t familiar with the law.
The second presentation was made by David Barlowe that attended the Amelia Island Concurs Event with his wife Leslie and two other couples from the club. His talk included a slide presentation that showed a lot of rare and unusual cars that were on display.
Bobby Cox won the 50/50 drawing.
The next meeting will be at the Harbor Inn and Seafood restaurant in Hickory, NC May 14th.
