In lieu of the May Cars and Coffee, the Sicards organized a trip starting from Morganton (Lowe’s) to the Tryon International Equestrian Center, part of the 1600-acre Tryon Resort complex.  From their website: Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC) is the ultimate destination for all who love horses, outdoor living, and an active lifestyle. Home of the FEI World Equestrian Games™ Tryon 2018, TIEC offers first-class facilities for equestrian events of all levels and disciplines. Located in the Blue Ridge Foothills of Mill Spring, NC, the competition experience is complemented by diverse onsite restaurants, a variety of shops, relaxing lodging getaways, family entertainment, and more.

There are several rings in addition to a stadium like one for signature events.  The ancillary rings are separated by shaded viewing areas with ample seating provided for spectators.  There were several types of events in separate rings while we were there.  David Poe, who has been involved with horses for most of his life, an Open Horse Show judge for 10 years and an International Quarter Horse Show judge for 35 years, made watching the various classes interesting as he explained the nuances of the class being presented and the finer points of the judging.

Of course, lunch was required and the complex offers a variety of cuisine choices.  We chose a 50s style diner which all enjoyed.  Following lunch, the Ahrendts lead us on a scenic tour back to our starting point in Morganton where we dispersed and departed for home.

Our thanks to Jerry & Kris for the event and Dave & Kathy for the tour home.
