Thirteen CVBMC cars headed out on a beautiful Saturday morning for the annual Triumph sponsored “The Gathering” at Shelton Vineyards. This was probably the largest caravan we have assembled in quite a while and we managed to get everyone there in one piece. We did find two other CVBMC cars when we arrived so we had fifteen cars representing the club.

Once at the show field the cars parked in the classes that are spread out over the grounds of the vineyard. This is a very gorgeous venue for a car show. There is plenty of room to walk around and view some exceptional cars.

The club grabbed a couple of picnic tables, set up our club tent and then got out our foods to share with friends and club members. This weekend we decided to have a pot-luck picnic with members bringing many of their favorite picnic foods to share. And it was all good! We did have a bit of a theme (chicken salad) but that was okay... it's fun to taste everyone's recipe.

After lunch we wandered over to watch the wrench racing – like “Valve Cover” racing except the cars must incorporate a hand tool, did our walk through of the car show to do the voting and enjoyed meeting up with friends from other clubs that were attending the show. I'm not sure how many cars were on the field but I'm thinking that there were close to 200 in attendance. So many nice cars to look at. The Triumph was this years' featured marque and they had some very rare ones to look at.

By midafternoon we were treated to a “Hat-Trick” of awards for one of our members. Gene Spainhour's 1934 Morgan F4 won the Shelton Vineyard award (picked by the owners of the venue), Best in Class and Best of Show. This is the first time that we've seen anyone win three awards! Congratulations Gene.

But the rest of CVMBC didn't go home empty handed. Other club winners were Bobby & Sandy Cox with a 1960 TR3A, Ken Lauterback with a 1975 TR6, and Corky & Priscilla Guenther with a 1949 MG TC. Congratulations to all of our winners.

The trip home was uneventful, unlike other years where we dodged thunderstorms, and we got home in time to spend a little time outside enjoying the rest of the day.

Thanks to the Triumph club for hosting this annual event. The date is already on the calendar for next year.
